Jordan Dakoff’s Bat Mitzvah Fundraising Page

Welcome to my Fundraising Page!

For my bat mitzvah project, I decided to partner with the Jordan River Village in Israel.  The Jordan River Village is an all-year-round camp and retreat center in Israel where children of all backgrounds suffering from chronic or life-threatening illnesses can experience overnight camp for one-week for free.  For most, this is their first time away from home.

I have committed to

  • making  a welcome card for each of the 1,900 children that visit the Village over the course of a year with positive phrases in Hebrew including “celebrate life”, “stay strong” and “enjoy camp” to comfort them with a welcome note upon their arrival at camp and
  • raise money for the Village to purchase equipment needed for the kids to have the best camp experience possible.

I contacted the Village and asked for their “wish list” and the list included items like: indoor playground equipment; musical instruments; wireless microphone system; slushy machine; cotton candy machine; popcorn machine; arts and crafts; pool waterslide (costs for items range between $250 – $4,500).  My initial fundraising goal is to raise at least $1,900 for the Village, which equates to $1 for each of the 1,900 kids who attend the camp yearly, to give the ‘gift of camp’ to children who cannot afford it.  Should I surpass my initial fundraising goal, all additional money raised will allow the Village to purchase some or all of the items on their “wish list” (the aggregate total of all the “wish list” items is $14,745).

Camp is my ‘Happy Place’.  When I am at overnight camp, it’s my favorite time of the year because I get to do outdoor activities and to spend time with my camp friends.  For the kids who go to Village, their regular lives are filled with doctor appointments and hospital stays to treat their medical conditions, however, at the Village, they get to be normal kids for a week and do all the activities we get to do at camp, like zip-lining, swimming, games, and hanging out with their friends.

Every child should get the opportunity to go to camp.  In honor of my bat mitzvah, will you join me in supporting the Jordan River Village so we can help send a child to camp and the Village can purchase new equipment for the kids to have the best possible camp experience?

Now that we have surpassed my initial goal of raising $1,900 to bring one camper to the Village for a week-long session, my goal is to continue working to raise more money to fill some – or all – of the Village’s wish list of items (which total $14,275).
